Letting off some steam

Smith Maple Farm Team

Meet some of the hard working producers

Here we have Glenn, Luke, Jim, Matt and Vig.  Missing from the picture is Eric and Uncle Dave.

The Seventh Generation

Some of the Seventh Generation of the Smith family relaxing on some of our hay in front of our cow barn where our herd of Belted Galloways reside.

The Baker Sugarbush

Here is one of our systems (in Strafford VT) late in the season that we lease from some great neighbors.

Seventh Generation Sugar makers

Lizzie and William are checking the bucket by the sugarhouse. While we run plastic tubing through our sugarbushes, we have a bucket for nostalgia that we check and boil.

You can always tell that we are boiling from the steam. On a good day, you can see it from miles away.

  • Steam Stacks

  • The steam from the boiling sap escapes the sugar house through these stacks
  • Boiling Sap

  • The sap has to get to a temperature of 219 degrees Fahrenheit in order to make the transition to syrup
  • Hydrometer

  • The Hydrometer is used to test the syrups density.
  • Original Sugarhouse

  • Built in 1992, this was the sugarhouse that started it all. We lost it in a fire in 2013.
